First of a kind festival fuses BBC radio DJs with plant living

A one of a kind vegan festival, Veelyfe, is bringing together mainstream artists with a fully Vegan, environmentally friendly beach party celebrating the country’s top plant-based street food.

The first music festival of its kind Veelyfe will see the likes of Radio 1 Extra DJ Melody Kane, Gorgon City lead vocalist Josh Barry and BBC Radio 4 DJ and the face of BBC Radio London’s emerging talent Claira Hermet, take to the stage.

The one-night festival brings together top talent in RnB, Hip Hop, Afro Beats and House with a love of all things vegan to a unique urban beach setting.

Inspired by one man’s dream to find a space where music and clean living can combine, rather than be an added extra, the festival on July 27th is a first for the industry. Everything from the staging to the toilets is environmentally friendly and all the street stalls will featurefree farm plant-based cuisine from around the world.

Eric Manangu, who is organising the event, said it was a positive step for the industry as he called for more mainstream Vegan events bringing greater variety to music festivals and embracing the importance of vegan living.

He said: The Veelyfe festival logo

“Veelyfe brings the same great music to a one of a kind event here in the heart of London. Veganism is being embraced for its positive effects not only on the individual but on the planet as a whole. Many music festivals are starting to incorporate vegan options but this will be the first festival that looks to inspire eco driven events by putting plant-based food at the forefront of the mainstream festival scene.”

Turning vegan just under two years ago Eric, from Newham, has a long connection with the up and coming music scene and is keen to combine his two passions for music and free farm plant-based cuisine.

“Coming from a ?? background meat and dairy was a big part of my childhood. However, as I grew up and I surrounded myself with different tastes and cultures I discovered more and more about the benefits of a plant-based diet. Over the past few years I have become more and more conscious about the food I chose to put in my body and embraced the vegan lifestyle.

“It is a passion which has inspired others to follow suit and I hope Veelyfe will help to show people the endless possibilities for vegan cuisine as well as how music events can be environmentally friendly while still celebrating future talent here in London.”

Veelyfe will take place from 12pm on Saturday 27th July at Lee Valley White Water Centre, in Waltham Cross, which was first built as part of a £31million investment for the 2012 Olympic Games.

The staging is supplied by and incorporates (eco measures) with eco toilets and a heavy emphasis on a festival that has a more positive, sustainable impact on the environment.

Biodegradable cups and straws will be used at the food stalls with continual litter picks keeping the site clean? and a heavy emphasis on recyclable materials.
