Third of UK parents prioritise “instagrammability” when booking family holidays

Social media-inspired tourism is set to hit record heights, with Forbes listing “instagrammability” as a key travel trend for 2019. And whilst it might not be a surprise that some 40 per cent of millennials choose their destinations based on capturing that all-important snapshot (earthsattractions.com), it seems parents are also getting in on the act when planning family getaways.

A recent study conducted by boutique aparthotel group, Roomzzz, which surveyed 2000 parents, showed that they are actively choosing short break and holiday destinations based on how good they will look on their social media feeds.
33% of all parents questioned admitted to choosing a destination based on it's wow factor for social media, with a whopping 71% of all Londoners agreeing that this was one of the most important factors when choosing a place to stay.

But don’t despair... although we might like to keep up with the Jones’ on our social media feeds, it seems our hearts are still in the right place, with having a ‘break from the norm’, ‘creating lasting memories’, ‘strengthening family bonds’ and ‘giving them a cultural experience’ being the top reasons for why we take our families on trips away.

Leading and much-loved psychologist, Donna Dawson, says: “The research shows that we want our choice of holiday destination to Third of UK parents prioritise “instagrammability” when booking family holidaysreflect well on us, by winning the approval of friends and acquaintances on social media, reinforcing that our choices were good ones.
