Grange Hotel Promises an Intimate Country House Setting in York Following Significant Refurbishment

41 Individually-Designed Rooms, a 2 AA Rosette Restaurant, Flower Arranging Workshops and Gin Masterclasses all in the Heart of York

Having recently undergone a significant refurbishment which saw the addition of four premier ground floor rooms and the development of the historic cellars into a 2 AA Rosette restaurant, The Grange Hotel offers an intimate stay in the heart of York.

The Grange Hotel is a luxury hotel in a Grade II listed building situated in the quiet residential area of Bootham, within easy walking distance from the city centre of York. Made up of only 41 individually-designed ensuite rooms set amongst Regency style décor, antique paintings, sash windows, rare racing memorabilia and a sweeping staircase, the hotel boasts incredible charm and character resembling that of a country house hotel.

A recent refurbishment has seen the introduction of four new premier ground floor rooms, the development of the hotel’s vaulted cellars into The Ivy Brasserie, and the installation of lifts to all floors.

Rooms have been individually designed by the hotel’s co-owner Vivien Cassel ranging from classic country house bedrooms featuring four-poster beds with matching floral wallpaper and soft furnishings, to cool townhouse contemporary rooms with colourful velvet sofas and armchairs. Bathrooms are fully stocked with luxurious toiletries from the White Company and feature underfloor heating.

Guests can enjoy fine dining at the hotel’s 2 AA Restaurant, The Ivy Brasserie, situated in the hotel’s original brick vaulted cellars. Set within stylish, atmospheric surroundings, Chef Will Nicol uses local Yorkshire produce to serve classic food with a French influence. G&T Grange Hotelenthusiasts can also partake in the restaurant’s gin masterclass led by local gin experts Still & Heart, where they will be guided through a number of different gins, garnishes and mixers.

For those looking to learn a new skill, guests can partake in a two-hour flower arranging workshop held regularly in the elegant library & drawing room, featuring large Juliet balcony windows and period antiques. Led by local florists Angela Ellis-Skelton and Nicola Davies-Murray, guests will create their own unique floral arrangement to take home with them before enjoying a decadent Afternoon Tea and glass of prosecco at the Ivy Brasserie.

The hotel has been shortlisted for the 2019 York Design Awards, a prestigious award which celebrates the heritage of fine buildings in the city of York and encourages a high standard of design. The awards are judged by an independent panel of renowned national and international figures in architecture and design. The Grange Hotel has been recognised for its sensitive approach to restoration, maintaining many of the historical features of the existing Grade II listed building which are key to the hotel’s character.

Rates at The Grange Hotel start from £210 staying in a double room on a B&B basis. To book visit www.grangehotel.co.uk or call 01904 644744.

The gin masterclass at The Grange Hotel costs £55 per person including arrival drink, 1.5-hour gin masterclass and two-course lunch at The Ivy Brasserie.
